Ratha's Creature Graphic Novel
It's official: Clare Bell and Imaginator Press have signed a contract for the Ratha's Creature Graphic Novel, so we are moving forward with the project! We're so grateful to all the fans who have supported Clare and the books; it's because of you that Clare's books are back in print, and it's because of you that we're moving forward with this project. There's still a ways to go, however, before we can realize the dream of a graphic novel version of Ratha's Creature, and we're going to need you more than ever. This post contains information about our planned Kickstarter, and how you can help. If you are an artist and interested in being considered to illustrate the graphic novel, information about how to submit is in this post.
In a few weeks, we'll be launching our first ever Kickstarter campaign, to raise funds for publication of the graphic novel. For anyone unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it's a crowdfunding site that provides a way for creators to raise money for projects; anyone can contribute a dollar or more. Backers can receive awesome rewards depending on the contribution level, and have the satisfaction of knowing they helped to make the project a reality!
Clare has already posted a call for fan videos to support the project; you can read her post here. We'll be using clips from the fan videos as part of our primary Kickstarter page video, and Clare will be creating a YouTube playlist of any videos posted on YouTube. It doesn't have to be complicated; just fire up your webcam and tell the world why you'd like to see a Ratha's Creature graphic novel! Of course, if you want to get creative, that's fine, too! We're asking that all videos be submitted no later than August 24. That gives you three more weeks to get it together.
Ratha fans are an amazingly talented bunch, and we would love to find an illustrator for the project from among the fans. Clare has been creating storyboards, and the illustrations will be created based on her storyboards. If you would like to be considered for the project, please submit a sample illustrated page based on the storyboard attached to this post. (Click the small image to download a larger version). You can work at any size you want, within reason, but please keep the page to a 2:3 ratio of width to height (such as 8" x 12" or 10" x 15"). The width should be no smaller than 6.5 inches at 300 DPI. Artwork should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than September 7.
